"Be steadfast in whatever state Jesus is pleased to place you in order to make your heart completely his. Nothing is better than this. Take to him all the things that enslave you, so that you can continually renounce earthly affections. Be assured that the King of heaven will give you regal affections instead to draw you to his holy love.

I see deep resolution in your heart to want to serve God. That assures me that you will be faithful in the exercise of spiritual devotions and in the constant practice of acquiring virtue. But I do caution you about one thing that you are certainly aware of. When failures occur because of flawed motives on your part, there is no need to be surprised. On the one hand, hate the offense that it gives to God; on the other hand, have a joyful humility, because then you are seeing and understanding your spiritual poverty."

-St. Pio of Pietrelcina
