“If alcoholism is a disease for which there is no responsibility, why is it that the victims demand praise for the recovery, but no blame for the indulgence? Preaching to others they say: I was once in the gutter Now look at me. Tuberculosis is a disease, but one never hears of tubercular patients going about parading their recovery from tuberculosis. It is because there is little element of freedom involved in a recovery from tuberculosis or diabetes, but there is some freedom involved in the cure of alcoholism.” Archbishop Fulton Sheen (Life is Worth Living)
