“From all eternity, God the Eternal Thinker had an Eternal Thought or Word. This Thought or Word is distinct from, but not separated from the One Who thought it, as our thoughts are distinct, but not separated from our mind.
But this Thought or Word of God has another name. He is also called a Son. But why Son? Go into your own mind for the answer. Where did you get the thought of “relation” or “fortitude” or “hope”? These do not exist as such in the visible experimental World. These thoughts were generated by your mind in the course of time. Now God “generated” a Thought or a Word.
But that Word was not generated in time, as our thoughts or words. As the reflection in the mirror and the face that looks into it are instantaneous, so are the Thinker and the Word co-eternal. Because eternally generated, God Who Thinks is called the Father or the principle of Generation, and the Word, Who eternally thought or conceived, is called a Son -- the Son of God.”    Archbishop Fulton Sheen
