Pope Benedict I, Epistle to Bishop David: “I thought to reply more fully to your letter; but while I was intending this, so great a sorrow touched me, that I might be pleased more to weep than to say anything. But lest it should have endured, I took care to write a few things back to you, inviting you at due time agree. But because, your letter attests, there are some in the province of Andalusia, who say, no one can demonstrate truly, to make a Trinity a unity, because neither can one approve properly anything three being one, nor one in three : Because of which reasons, dearest son, we have sent to you replies by consult from the Apostolic See, that either by these you might make them be converted to the right faith, or that you might repel them from the Church before this plague may be spread more widely among the people.” [The holy Pontiff goes on to cite verses from Isa. ch. VI, Gen. ch. I, Exod. ch. XXXIV, Gen. XVIII, Exod. III, Ps. XCVI, Is. XXXVII, 2nd Kings VII, 3rd Kings VIII, Apoc. IV, Deut. IV, Josue II, Deut. X, 3rd Kings XVIII, Esther. XIII, Judith IX, Jer. X, Apoc. I, and other Old and New Testament verses which prove both a Triune and Uniate nature of God.]
